Paul Storey
A Note From the Collector
Paul Storey, born in London in 1957.
The moment I saw Paul's paintings I was mesmerized. I think he is an exceptionally good artist and so does my wife, although she finds some of his subject matter difficult to live with. That's the thing about his work; it attracts strong reactions. I have noticed how he is revered by some, but others find his canvases disturbing. Everyone, however, recognizes his mastery of colour, composition and perspective.
His work is built from mythology, Greek and Christian, as well as the influence of the renaissance and old masters. He is also fascinated by abstract forms and concepts, music and literature. His pictures are enigmatic and exciting. it would require a highly educated observer to pick apart the symbolism manifested in his canvases. I certainly can't. There is such a depth of thought and complexity in each painting, only Paul can interpret it; something he is not willing to do. His advice: don't over analyse. I never tire of his compositions, there are so many fascinating aspects, it is impossible to take them in on first glance.
